Blue Light for acne treatment
Light therapy is recognized by centres of excellence throughout the world as an important mode of treatment for problematic skin conditions and acne. More recently, effective cosmetic applications have also been developed.
Omnilux systems ensure that the right light dose is always delivered to the tissue; the right wavelength is always used to successfully activate the target cells or light reactive substrates; and the right intensity is always used to prevent inefficient tissue response.
What is Omnilux?
Omnilux is a new technology providing treatments for: Acne, Non-melanoma skin cancers, Vitiligo and Skin rejuvenation. It is completely safe and non-invasive. It's not an IPL or laser – contains no UVA or UVB.
Omnilux BLUE – For ACNE
Acne vulgaris is one of the world's most common skin conditions, affecting between 85-100% of adolescents by the age of 24. Growing evidence suggests that it now affects up to 50% of adults over 25 years old and that beyond 25 years clinical facial acne occurs more frequently in women than in men.
Acne is a widespread and upsetting condition. It can produce lifelong and emotional scarring.
Acne develops when the sebaceous glands in a person's skin produces excess oil (sebum). This oil combines with cells that line the gland walls and clogs the skin's pores. Normal skin bacteria colonize these pores and the body's response causes the inflammation or reddening of the skin that we associate with acne.
Why choose Omnilux for Acne?
Omnilux produces pure light at 415nm, which targets the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes, (P.acnes) that causes the inflammatory response associated with acne vulgaris.
P.acnes contains a natural chemical (coproporphyrin III), which is sensitive to light at correct wavelength (415nm). If stimulated, these chemicals will neutralize the bacteria and with no bacteria present inflammation will subside.
The reaction contained within the bacteria leaving the surrounding tissue and sebaceous gland intact and fully functional.
Light absorption by target cells also stimulates a cascade of cellular pathways that leads to changes in intra and extra cellular pH, inhibiting the proliferation of P.acnes.
Blue light therapy at 415nm is known to stimulate the production of cytokines from keratinocytes located in the epidermis. The cytokine cascade is a secondary or dark reaction that continues after the light treatment has finished. This cascade stimulates specific immunoregulatory pathways which play a significant role in post treatment healing of inflamed acne skin.
Omnilux treatments are totally non-invasive and generate no heat. The treatment does not damage normal tissue and works with the body's natural processes to rejuvenate the skin.
Clinical Efficacy:
In a recent study every subject had a significantly successful treatment response. There was an optimum reduction in inflammatory lesions between 8 and 16 weeks (4 – 8 weeks post treatment) of 73%.
Treatment Protocol:
Omnilux blue light therapy for 20minutes twice weekly for 4 weeks.
Omnilux BLUE for severe and combination light therapy for cystic acne
Using variable concentration of a photosensitizer combined with Omnilux blue we are able to offer a safe yet effective treatment for severe acne. Furthermore the wide treatment head is designed to treat not only the whole face but also the back.
Omnilux is an essential tool as part of an acne management programme. Omnilux delivers pure light optimized to deliver the correct wavelength and dose for maximum activation of the target cells.
Combination phototherapy works through the anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory activity of Omnilux blue and Omnilux revive delivered alternately. Only by delivering the right wavelength in sequence can optimum results be seen. Two alternate treatments a week for 4 weeks has proven to give excellent clearance
Simultaneously, Omnilux blue induces anti-inflammatory cytokines, stimulating specific immunoregulatory pathways.
The intracellular specificity of red light therapy (Omnilux revive) is well documented and it has long been demonstrated that 633nm offers excellent reduction in inflammatory lesions and is proven to stimulate cellular mechanisms for tissue repair.
